Who We Are

20130624 140002-2The disciples who make up Saint Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church welcome all people.

We are a congregation of about 575 members, with about 170  worshipping at two Services every weekend.

We are Lutheran Christians, which means that we are a people who understand God to be gracious and generous. As it says in Psalm 103, "the Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love."

We have a long history in Prairie du Chien - 150 years - and this means that  many of the area's residents have a connection with the church. We are frequent partners with the larger community in sponsoring a variety of events. This year in the Spring, for instance, we hosted a Bluegrass Mass  which was performed by the PdC High School Choir, along with the well known bluegrass band Monroe Crossing.

While we worship in tradtional ELCA style most of the time, we also worship in contemporary style on the 2nd Sunday of every month. We use a screen in worship every Sunday.

Our Goals

Our primary task is to proclaim the gospel, which is the good news of the life and ministry, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As a Christian congregation, we also provide ways in which people can serve their Lord and the wider world in which we live. As God is gracious  with us, so do we seek to be generous ourselves, giving of ourselves and our resources.

We are a congregation that likes having goals, and sets priorities. In 2009, we adopted a five year plan for ministry which we completed this year, a year early. We will soon  begin a new visioning process.
